What's Love Got To Do With It?

Answer: just about everything.

Hello love birds, lovers of love or maybe we’ve enticed a few romance cynics to join us.

As a self confessed lover of love, a hopeless romantic, a self appointed matchmaker and professional wedding celebrant; I’m here to tell you that love has everything to do with it.

What is IT, you ask?

Getting married to your other half.

When people ask me why I became a wedding celebrant, the answer was simple. Being part of someone’s wedding day is one of the most special privileges you can experience as a human being.

From the laughs to the tears to the stories of how two people came to be is the stuff that gets me UP in the morning. It energises me to put 110% of my effort into ensuring that every couple gets to experience a beautiful wedding ceremony where two families and a gaggle of awesome friends get to celebrate love.

But hang on.

Let’s take a step back right to where it all began.

There hasn’t even been a proposal yet! Just two people loving doing life together. Eating almond croissants on a Saturday morning and taking long walks on the beach. Oops, nope. I’m projecting. That’s what I’d like to be doing…

So, back to love.

We’ve surpassed the courting stages and we are in full blown long term happiness. Maybe there have been some chats about a future together but for so many couples I meet, they tell me one thing.

Even though marriage might have been on the cards, they knew their relationship was really solid when they knew that with or without marriage, they had found their person. The one they wanted to share the good, the bad, the sad, the hilarious and the downright bizarre moments of life with.

Love can be given and received in so many ways. With a kiss, a special letter, a favourite cupcake or just remembering that you like to listen to Triple J Hack on your commute home.

It’s not about the fanfare and giving your all into planning the biggest, baddest, funnest (definitely a word) wedding of the year.

It’s about truly knowing that above all, you’ve found the person that’s going to be there when you get home at night after a long day and know that maybe you’re not in a bad mood, you’re just hangry.

And sealing the deal with a kiss and a ring is a beautiful extra in your journey together.

Take it from me, lovebirds: enjoy the process, enjoy each other and enjoy love.
